I'm lacing my shoes extra tight today- looks like the end times. The Seattle P-I and the Seattle Times are simultaneously running the same story by Maureen Dowd. I feel like I did the night the Doghouse closed.

These two journalistic foes, so inveterately bitter that they won't even mention each other's names, are publishing the same story? What's next, am I going to grow a vulva, or find a bubblegum tree in my backyard? It ain't right, I tell ya, it just ain't right.

I always knew there would be a downside to an era of good feeling. A double dose of Maureen Dowd is a troubling harbinger of things to come.

The Fed cuts the rates again and the Asian markets head south. To them, it sounds more like screaming than leadership. This is so not the time to elect one of the Keating Five as President.

Make It Stop

I've got this ringing in my ears. It's the alarm bells that go off when a Democrat gets indicted. Why, lo and behold, there are two or three different stories about how and why the Feds started tapping Spitzer's phone.

That's a problem for the Democrats, but not for me. I have no sympathy with a guy who spends $4500 for a hooker while his foxy wife languishes at home. Especially if that guy would throw me in jail for even thinking of doing the same thing.

If the Dems want me to vote for them, they should act like a political party. They should refer to Republican miscreants every time they defend Spitzer, and they should attack Republican miscreants when they're not defending Spitzer. Make the Republicans the ones who are tired of hearing about morality.

Did I spell his name wrong? Well, like I said, I really don't care.

Who Does Colombia Attack?

Well, obviously, Venezuela, which has been dealing with attacks by Colombia for several years.

And, now that Ecuador wants US troops out, Colombia attacks Ecuador. Do you see a pattern here?

In 2006, more labor leaders were killed in Colombia than in all the rest of the world combined. This is Colombia's role in South America- to run the drug gangs and paramilitaries that support Uribe, to attack honest journalists and labor leaders and to act as the cats-paw of American policy in the region.

Contrary to the assertions of Clinton and Obama, Colombia is not the victim here. The US is playing a dangerous game when we go looking for a fight in South America. Clinton and Obama are playing a dangerous game when they display their ignorance about this. Neither of them are ready to take a call at 3 AM from a general announcing that the invasion of Venezuela has begun. They don't have the guts to stop it.

So Much For 'Supply and Demand'

Gas prices are rising sharply, even though America has never had so much gasoline waiting to be sold.

Could we stop pretending this is a market-driven economy? Our economy is driven by the men who rule it and, as long as they represent criminal cartels, we the people will be the losers.

There's nothing wrong with saying a democratic government should control the economy and rig the game to benefit the people the government represents. In fact, under the circumstances, there's a lot that's right about that. It's time for some changes around here.
